Do I Need A Vitamin Supplement?

So many vitamin supplements out there but do you really need them all?

Do you really need to take a vitamin supplement? Unfortunately, with all the fast food, preservatives, and man-made food out there most people do not get the needed nutrients from what we eat. Even if we are eating our fruits, veggies and other whole foods a lot of those have been stripped of the high content of nutrients from the soil lacking the high nutrient value.

Mass production, overproduction, and use of chemicals in growing have taken most of it away. Most fruits and vegetables contain 70% fewer nutrients than they did just 50 years ago!

So even though it is harder to get those nutrients, don’t give up and eat fast food while taking a supplement! A supplement should be just that. A “supplement” to a healthy diet.
With all the options out there it can be tricky to find the right one.The best will be a food supplement.

Should I take a multivitamin every day?

Do your research. Look at the source. Look at what is added to it. How much is it claiming you get for a DV and how much of that can your body absorb? Read product reviews, customer reviews, and any information to support the product. Also, be aware that the term “natural” does not always mean safe. There are a lot of “natural” things out there that are not safe to put in our body?

When should I take a vitamin?

If you have a trusted physician, talk to your doctor. If you are taking any medications the supplement could interfere with the effectiveness. Even if it is “whole foods” or “all-natural” you need to be careful. Remember, Poison Ivy is all natural and you wouldn’t want to ingest that!

Vitamin supplements. good or bad?

Some vitamins are not effective when taken with or without other vitamins. Such as Vitamin C can aid in Iron absorption, but calcium will compete with other minerals and that will reduce the absorption so that should be taken without other minerals. More is not always better. You can overtake a multitude of vitamins. Vitamins D, A, and Iron are just a few.

Lastly

Watch for labels like “quick and effective” or “cure all”. While vitamins are essential to our health. They are meant to help us become healthier and sustain health. Not counteract an unhealthy diet and/or sedentary lifestyle.

Other things to watch for are claims that it is “totally safe” or “no side effects”. Any drug or supplement could have side effects from a number of things. Medications, dosage, allergic reaction, or intolerance are just a few.

In Summary of if you really need a Supplement

Whole food, non-GMO supplements are always going to be best.

Finding a supplement that can give you the whole foods nutrition your body craves and can absorb is best. Our bodies were not designed to process processed foods and that includes processed supplements. Always remember safety first. If it seems too good to be true it probably is.

Don’t assume that if a product isn’t helping you that it is not hurting you. Overdoses of some vitamins can have side effects. Food should be our vitamins so try and stick with food supplements. Most do not have warning labels.
